Some real delights await Indian mobile customers this festive season. State-run telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has announced its too-good- to-be- true data plan just after a day following Reliance’s declaration of its world’s cheapest data plan beginning as low as Rs 50 per 1 GB. In a move to counter Reliance Jio, BSNL is launching a plan that would offer Internet at just Rs. 1 per GB.
BSNL declared in a public statement that this wireline broadband plan is officially called “Experience Unlimited Broadband 249” and the plan would be effective from September 9, 2016. It is worth noting that that plan is purely ‘promotional’ meaning it will be available only for the initial 6 months. BSNL will then convert the plan into BBG Combo ULD 499 once the trial period is over.
According to the latest data plan from BSNL, the company will offer 1GB data at a paltry rupee 1. 2Mbps of speed for the first 1GB of data will be offered by the plan and subsequently the speed will go down to 1Mbps. In addition, unlimited free calling is also offered by the plan between 9PM – 7PM on weekdays and Sundays to any network across the country.
If users use up to 300GB data in a month, BSNL’s promotional unlimited wireline broadband plan will effectively translate into less than Re 1 per GB download cost for subscribers. Unlimited Broadband data can be downloaded by customers under this plan without worrying about any data limit in GB.
Provided the customers use the plan continuously for a month, they will be allowed to download up to 300GB of data by paying just Rs. 249.
Thus, the per GB of data download cost comes out as less than Re 1. After six months, customer will be migrated to one of the regular broadband plan based on the choice of the customer.
