These days Microsoft seems to be very much interested in dumping its fancy camera apps in the Apple’s App Store. It all started with an app called ‘Microsoft Selfie’, and Microsoft claims it as a selfie-enhancing camera. Following Selfie, the company launched ‘Microsoft Pix Camera’ which is an AI-powered application, and it’s a bit like having a pro photographer inside your camera.
Now, Microsoft took a step further and released a kooky camera app coined as ‘Sprinkles.’ Touted as ‘Camera with fun ideas’ by the company, it’s basically a rip-off of Snapchat. It adds captions and imagery on top of your photos. Besides, Microsoft’s face detection software and AI learning will bring you some exclusive functionalities.
Sprinkles offers captions based on what it sees in the image, for instance, I took a picture of a cat lying on the couch it automatically added the caption as ‘a cat lying on the couch.’ Microsoft’s facial recognition feature will even guess your age if you take a selfie. Other options include finding your celebrity look alike, adding captions based on the picture content, location, and day of the week.
Not interested in the captions offered by a lifeless bot? You can even add your own comments. There are a variety of fonts and colors to chose from, and also you can add emojis and stickers to your images. After all the touch up is done, you can share your photos across different social networking sites.
The app looks barebones, and Microsoft needs to add more functionalities down the line, but right now it’s a pretty minor stuff. Sprinkles is a decent app filled with many fun features, but being just decent in a market that is full of other great options will not make it to the top of the list.
